Talents of UK School of Music 'On Parade'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 11, 2023) — The University of Kentucky School of Music will kick off their 2023-24 season while showcasing the vast array of talents on campus at the third School of Music On Parade, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the Singletary Center for the Arts 

The concert will feature a program that showcases performances by a variety of the School of Music’s large ensembles, including UK's Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble; and UK Opera Theatre; a cappella favorites Paws and Listen and the acoUstiKats; Wildcat Marching Band; and members of its distinguished faculty including the UK Faculty Brass Quintet and Faculty Reed Trio. 

The Faculty Brass Quintet will open the first half of the concert with "Hoe Down" from "Rodeo" by Aaron Copland. The concert will also feature works from Dolly Parton, James Stephenson, and a piece from UK Opera Theatre’s production of “Susannah” by Carlyle Floyd. The full production runs October 6-8.  

“We're always excited to be able to demonstrate to members of the campus and Central Kentucky communities and to our regular patrons the wide-ranging talents of the UK School of Music's faculty and students,” Pelkey said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for those who may know and support one portion of our comprehensive educational programming and concert offerings to discover something beautiful about other facets of the School of Music.”

The UK School of Music is internationally recognized for excellence in performance, music education, and research in music and offers Kentucky's most comprehensive array of educational programs devoted to musical arts.
