Elam Named 2016 Recipient of SGEA Career Education Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 9, 2016) – Carol Elam, associate dean of Admissions and Institutional Advancement at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, has been named the recipient of the 2016 Southern Group on Educational Affairs (SGEA) Career Educator Award. The award acknowledges Elam’s leadership and contributions to medical education.

As a professor of behavioral science, associate dean for admissions and institutional advancement, and director of medical education research at the college, Elam has been an avid supporter of student-centered initiatives focused on education and student well-being.   She has also given more than 180 presentations nationally and internationally, written more than 140 articles and abstracts, and has been a reviewer for numerous journals, including the journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Academic Medicine.   “Carol continues to be a national leader in medical education. Her work and leadership efforts are having great impact to improve the education and well-being of our future physicians, said Robert DiPaola, dean of the UK College of Medicine.
