UK Police have presented a five-week C-CERT training on campus this fall. The last training exercise will be Thursday, Nov. 9, at Kirwan 4.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 8, 2017) Recent hurricane disasters around the U.S. are a reminder of the life-saving need of first responders in emergency situations. An important part of this response is training citizens in basic disaster response skills. The University of Kentucky Police Department has been offering this type of training all semester, and will present the final exercise Thursday, Nov. 9.

This exercise will be a simulation of a natural disaster and will take place inside and outside of the Kirwan 4 Residence Hall in the Kirwan-Blanding Complex. This is a simulated exercise with props and makeup on participants to resemble serious injuries. The training will be held from noon-3 p.m.

These exercises answer the mission of the UK Police Department Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness (CMP) to coordinate effective campus disaster preparedness. An element of that work is emergency response training for UK. With the support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the nationally recognized Campus Community Emergency Response Team (C-CERT), training has was offered through a five-week session this fall on UK’s campus.
