UK Welcomes NCUR 2014

Colleagues and Students,

This week, the University of Kentucky proudly welcomes more than 4,000 undergraduate students, mentors and administrators to campus and the Lexington community for the 2014 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). From Thursday through Saturday (April 3-5), they will engage and explore together with fellow students from UK and across the United States a myriad of new curiosities and ideas.

We are proud to host the world's next generation of innovators and share with them what it means to "discover blue" in Lexington.

A very important component for the success of this conference is the involvement of UK students, who are strongly encouraged to sign up to volunteer and contribute. Students may sign up at uky.volunteermatch.org for various jobs such as directing attendees, working tables, and providing many other logistical duties that are needed for a conference of this size.  

Faculty and/or graduate student moderators are also needed. To sign up, contact claire.renzetti@uky.edu. 

The UK community is strongly encouraged to take part in this exciting event by attending poster and oral presentations, music performances, plenary speaker events (featuring Dr. T. Pearse Lyons, Kris Kimel, Nikky Finney and Dr. Ernest Bailey), and career and graduate/professional school fairs. 

Research and scholarship – the creation of knowledge – is a fundamental component of a multi-faceted higher education. It is an integral part of the University of Kentucky’s mission as the state’s flagship and land grant research institution, and the driving purpose of NCUR. By engaging in collaborative discovery among the next generation of thinkers, the conference stirs the aspiring pioneers that will address the world's most intractable problems and create a better future for the communities they touch.
