UK Nursing Professor Named President of International Honor Society

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 11, 2010) − Suzanne Prevost, professor and associate dean for Practice and Engagement at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, has been named president-elect of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. Prevost will serve as president-elect during 2010 and 2011; then will take on the role of president for 2012 and 2013.   

As associate dean for Practice and Engagement, Prevost serves as the liaison between the College of Nursing and several clinical and educational institutions across the Commonwealth. She also manages faculty practice and continuing education activities, and teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program. Her background includes experience as an advanced practice nurse, nursing administrator, researcher, professor and journal editor.

 “I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to move into this international leadership position, and I am grateful for the support of Dean Kirschling and my colleagues at the UK College of Nursing,” Prevost said.

Prevost previously served as secretary for Sigma Theta Tau and has also held national leadership roles with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association. Sigma Theta Tau International is the second largest nursing organization in the world with approximately 125,000 active members representing 88 countries.
