Education Professors' Book Selected as Finalist for Distinguished Achievement Award

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 23, 2012) — University of Kentucky College of Education professors Lee Ann Jung and Thomas Guskey's book has been selected as a finalist for the 2012 Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) Distinguished Achievement Awards in the category of Professional Development. The book they are nominated for is titled "Grading Exceptional and Struggling Learners"

One of the largest and longest-running awards programs for educational products, the AEP annual awards program and its seal of excellence are widely recognized by educators, administrators, and parents as a mark of outstanding educational value.

"Grading Exceptional and Struggling Learners" provides teachers and administrators with an effective framework for grading students with disabilities, English learners, and other struggling learners fairly and accurately. The book’s standards-based inclusive grading model helps educators set expectations, implement appropriate accommodations and modifications, and communicate grading to students and their families.

Entries are evaluated on traits such as efficacy, usability, and overall educational value. The full list of finalists for this year’s DAAs is posted online at www.aepweb.org/awards/finalists.htm.

Winners will be announced at the annual Content in Context Conference in Washington, D.C., which takes place at the Capital Hilton on June 3-6.

Jung is an associate professor in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling and Guskey is a professor in the Department of Educational, School and Counseling Psychology.
