Employee ID Will Replace Long-Distance PIN Code

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 1, 2011) — This fall, University of Kentucky employees will have one less number to remember.

Starting on Thursday, Sept. 1, UK Communications and Network Systems will be replacing employees' long-distance authorization PIN codes with the eight-digit employee ID number listed at the top of every employee's pay statement.

Authorized employees will then be able to use their employee ID number to place long-distance calls. Employees will also be able to verify long-distance access by viewing the "Employee Self-Service" tab in the myUK portal. The long-distance code change is part of efforts to improve operational efficiency and cost-savings for the university.

Authorized employees will continue to use their seven-digit PIN through Aug. 31. In the meantime, departmental managers can request to add or delete long-distance PIN codes as usual, at www.uky.edu/IT/CNS/forms/contact.html.

When placing international phone calls, calling cards will be needed. Departments can request international calling cards for individual employees by completing the form (PDF) available at www.uky.edu/IT/CNS/forms/CC_form.pdf. Additional information regarding international calling cards is available at www.uky.edu/IT/CNS/products/callcard.html.

For additional information regarding the new long-distance codes, visit the CNS website at www.uky.edu/IT/CNS, or contact the CNS Work Order Desk at commwo@uky.edu or (859) 218-HELP.
