LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 26, 2010) University of Kentucky Information Technology is making Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system available online to faculty and staff.

The new operating system was released by Microsoft last fall. UK's license with Microsoft limits downloads only to university-owned equipment.

The download is available at

Prior to installing the new operating system, users should check with their department's IT technician. At this point, the SAP GUI is not compatible with Windows 7, while the Cisco IPSECC VPN client is not compatible with the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

Other instructions, warnings and restrictions are posted online at the university's Windows 7 download site.

At this point, UKIT has not obtained access to Windows 7 for students. If such access is obtained, students will be notified.
