LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 8, 2022) — As part of its commitment to greater trust, transparency and accountability, the University of Kentucky’s Finance and Administration Specialized Training (FAST) is officially underway.

This initiative, launched today, will offer a broad set of courses across key areas of the university’s financial and business operations. Depending on an employee’s specific role, training may be mandatory or taken on a voluntary basis. The program will include the Office of Finance and Administration’s recently created Financial Foundations courses as a start, and those enrolled can select additional courses for training each year following.

Mandatory participants will complete four FAST web-based trainings (WBTs) each year. They will complete two courses over six-month intervals with compliance deadlines in June and December. The courses are available on myUK Learning at myuk.uky.edu and can be taken at the convenience of each employee.

“We must demonstrate to each other and all those we serve that we will be responsible stewards of the resources we generate and those with which we are entrusted,” said Penny Cox, university treasurer.  “This Finance and Administration Specialized Training initiative, with mandatory training for all business officers throughout our colleges and administrative units, demonstrates to our community that our financial operations are being administered in accordance with university policies and best practices.”

Employees who are required to take the training will be assigned by the FAST program team in partnership with supervisors across the institution. Compliance metrics will be tracked bi-annually through myUK Learning.

“As public servants, we must continue to strengthen our businesses operations and continue to improve every aspect of our work,” said Eric Monday, UK executive vice president for finance and administration.

The FAST initiative will equip employees with the tools they need to properly manage their resources. In doing so, the University of Kentucky will be able to better serve its people and the Commonwealth. Click here to visit the FAST website and learn more.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
