UK Alum Antoine Huffman Receives Joseph T. Burch Young Alumni Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 30, 2015) — Antoine Huffman, a University of Kentucky alumnus, was honored by the University of Kentucky Alumni Association with the Joseph T. Burch Young Alumni Award during the June 19 Board of Directors Summer Workshop in Lexington.
The UK Alumni Association Joseph T. Burch Young Alumni Award is presented annually to honor and recognize an alumna or alumnus who is an active member of the UK Alumni Association, is 10 years or less out of college at the time of nomination and has worked on behalf of young people through the university, the association, their alumni club or in the local community.
Antoine Huffman of Spring Hill, Tennessee, is a member of the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Young Alumni Council and serves on the board of the Greater Nashville UK Alumni Club. He serves as vice-chairman of the Communications Committee and has previously been part of the Membership and Diversity and Group Development Committees.
At UK, he was a three year starter for the UK football team, earning several NCAA and SEC honors. He was named Mr. Wildcat at the CATSPY Awards for his commitment to community service and also received the award for Male Player of the Year. Huffman was a finalist for the prestigious Wuerffel Trophy and in 2004 became the eighth player in UK history to be elected to the National Good Works Team.
In 2005, he was elected by the student body as Homecoming King, becoming the first African-American male to receive the honor. He displayed strong leadership skills as a student-athlete, serving three years as the Student Athletic Advisory Council president, two years as chairman for the UK Athletics Outreach Committee and as a member of the UK Athletic Association Board of Directors.
Huffman is passionate about community service and is an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, the Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army and has been a motivational speaker at churches, schools and regional special events.
He is manager of domestic corporate sales for Mizuho OSI, a medical equipment supply company and earned a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications (now media arts and studies) from UK in 2005. He and his wife Jessica are Life Members of the UK Alumni Association. They are the proud parents of 3-year-old Jayden.
