UK Gatton Alumni Named to 'Great American Economic Revival' Industry Groups
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 21, 2020) — Two University of Kentucky alumni have been named to “Great American Economic Revival” industry groups that will advise the White House on reopening the economy after the COVID-19 shutdown.
Last week, President Donald J. Trump announced 200 esteemed executives, economists, scholars and industry leaders who — together — will form the various task forces.
“These bipartisan groups of American leaders will work together with the White House to chart the path forward toward a future of unparalleled prosperity,” Trump said. “The health and wealth of America is the primary goal, and these groups will produce a more independent, self-sufficient and resilient nation.”
UK alumni on the list include:
- Sam Hazen, CEO of HCA Healthcare; and
- Rodney McMullen, chairman and CEO of The Kroger Company.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, HCA Healthcare is an American for-profit operator of health care facilities. Since being founded in 1968, HCA strives to be patient-centered by leading with integrity and compassion.
Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, The Kroger Company — or simply Kroger — is an American retail company founded by Bernard Kroger in 1883. It’s currently the largest supermarket by revenue in the United States.
Both Hazen and McMullen graduated from the Gatton College of Business and Economics in 1982.
“We are extremely proud of our alumni for lending their expertise to our government in this unprecedented time,” Simon Sheather, dean of Gatton College, said. “I am confident they will bring the needs of all Kentuckians to the table as the group discusses the best course of action for getting this country back to business.”
