LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 30, 2018) — The University of Kentucky recently received a Leadership in Greener Purchasing Award for the Higher Education (Public) Sector from Office Depot.
The honor is based on UK's high levels of "green spend" with Office Depot when compared to other institutions in the higher education industry. Office Depot calculates "green spend" by comparing a customer's expenditure on products with eco-attributes such as recycled content, energy efficiency and nontoxicity.
"This year we chose just 19 winners, after evaluating spend patterns of our thousand largest customers. Through your (UK's) decisions you are driving the market for eco-conscious products and are helping to make a more positive impact on the planet," said Molly Ray, senior manager of the Office Depot Sustainability Team.
"The University of Kentucky takes great pride in using sustainable products and is looking forward to continuing this partnership with Office Depot to help improve the environment," said Becky Purcell, contracting officer in the Central Purchasing Division.
