UK's Carl Nathe to be inducted into Kentucky Broadcasters Hall of Fame
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 25, 2023) — Tonight, University of Kentucky public address announcer Carl Nathe will be inducted into the Kentucky Broadcasters Association (KBA) Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington. Nathe is one of five inductees in the KBA Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
A native of Pleasantville, New York, and a broadcasting and public relations professional for nearly 50 years, Nathe retired from full-time work in the office of University of Kentucky Public Relations and Strategic Communications in 2019, but continues to cover occasional special assignments for UK.
Prior to retirement, Nathe has handled many assignments (beyond his main campus duties) for UK Athletics, including baseball and gymnastics public address announcing, women’s basketball television work and more. He is currently in his 27th year as public address announcer for UK home football games at Kroger Field.
After graduating from the University of Maryland-College Park in 1974, Nathe spent the next 15 years working in television and radio, mainly as a sports anchor and reporter, while also handling news and other on-air duties. Beginning in the fall of 1985, Nathe worked as a sportscaster for WLEX-TV in Lexington before joining the UK staff in September 1989. During his tenure at UK, Nathe served as a host and producer of "UK News Report" on television; reporter for TV halftime segments during UK football and basketball games; host and producer of the radio feature "UK at the Half"; master of ceremonies for significant university announcements and events; and wrote news releases and was department liaison to several colleges and departments across the university.
Nathe and his wife, Ellen, have three adult children and three grandchildren, and reside in Lexington.
