CARES to Host Take the Lead Professional Development Conference March 30

LEXINGTON, Ky, (March 22, 2019) — The Center for Academic Resources and Enrichment Services (CARES) is hosting the Take the Lead Conference from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30, in the Jacobs Science Building on the University of Kentucky campus.

Take the Lead is a student-led leadership conference that caters to the sophomore year experience, although all freshmen and sophomores are welcome to attend. The conference will feature six workshops with lecturers from different areas across campus. Each workshop focuses on personal and professional skill development with underrepresented minority students specifically in mind.

"Participating in this conference provides students, especially diverse students, with insight on how to be professional, create business relationships (in and outside of the workplace), how to build a professional platform and how to conduct oneself within the workplace," said Nyla Swain, UK sophomore and conference coordinator. "With this, students can take away top-notch professionalism and the ability to lead themselves, and others, toward success."

CARES's mission is to provide a comprehensive academic support system as well as enrichment services to aid in increasing the retention and graduation rates of underrepresented students at the university. Through academic planning, tutoring, study groups, and enrichment activities and programs designed to address specific topics at each grade level, students are given the tools to achieve academic excellence and become leaders in an out of the classroom.
