Need a Ride Home for Spring Break? BreakShuttle Has You Covered.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2019) — Need a ride home for Spring Break? Ticket sales are now open for charter bus service for the spring academic break. This service — formerly known as Ride Home Express — is now being offered through BreakShuttle, in cooperation with University of Kentucky Transportation Services.
The BreakShuttle service enables students, faculty and staff to take a charter bus from campus to their hometowns and other destinations during major academic breaks. This service stops at numerous cities along three routes: Atlanta, Chicago and Cleveland.
The three routes’ final destinations are the same as in prior years, although a few of the drop-off stops (Louisville, Cincinnati and Florence) have been eliminated. Below are the routes with their drop-off cities:
Atlanta Route
Knoxville, Tennessee
Chattanooga, Tennessee
Kennesaw, Georgia
Chicago Route
Indianapolis, Indiana
Lafayette, Indiana
Merrillville, Indiana
Naperville, Illinois
Cleveland Route
Dayton, Ohio
Columbus, Ohio
Mansfield, Ohio
Medina, Ohio
BreakShuttle’s service is scheduled to depart from Kroger Field on the last day of classes before Spring Break and to return the final Sunday of that break. The buses depart and arrive between Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) and Kroger Field, close to the entrance of the Green Lot. The BreakShuttle website allows people to purchase one-way tickets, so those interested in a return trip will also need to purchase the return trip option.
For Spring Break, the charter buses are scheduled to depart Kroger Field 4 p.m. Friday, March 8, and return to campus Sunday, March 17.
More information about schedules, prices and links to purchase tickets, can be found here.
UK Transportation Services also provides free campus shuttle service to Kroger Field on the day the charter buses are scheduled to leave. Registration is required and can be done online. Shuttle pick-up locations and times can be found here. Those returning to Kroger Field from Spring Break will be able to take the Yellow Route (#27) back to the broader campus on Sunday, March 17.
BreakShuttle is the nation’s largest provider of college break transportation services and contracts with fully insured and compliant charter companies. BreakShuttle is wholly owned by Wells + Associates, a transportation consultancy company. For more information, visit their website.
Students who plan to travel by air during Spring Break can also take advantage of a separate service offered through UK Transportation Services. Airport Shuttles are provided free-of-charge from campus to Blue Grass Airport (LEX), Louisville International Airport (SDF) and the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). More details about Airport Shuttles can be found here.
