Commencement 2.0

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 5, 2011) – The University of Kentucky is honoring its newest graduates at the 144th Commencement this Sunday, May 8, 2011, and friends and family of our graduates who cannot make it to Lexington do not have to miss out on this special event. UK is utilizing social media and other technology to bring Commencement to your computer or mobile device.

All three Commencement ceremonies, including the graduate and professional student ceremony at 9 a.m. and both undergraduate ceremonies at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. will be live-streamed online at www.uky.edu/uknow, the university’s daily news website, beginning with a pre-ceremony show that starts 15 minutes before the ceremony. “Live from the Blue Carpet” features students, faculty and special guests as they prepare for Commencement and is hosted by students from the School of Journalism’s broadcast journalism program. The ceremony will immediately follow.

Followers of UK’s Twitter account (twitter.com/universityofky) can follow along with the Commencement activities via live tweet prior to and during the event. Twitter users are also encouraged to use the hashtag #ukgrad to honor all our graduates.

Facebook users can invite friends and family to attend Commencement through an event created by the university. Click here to view the event and invite people to attend.

Graduates can view the ceremony beginning in mid-May on the University’s YouTube site at www.youtube.com/universityofkentucky.

UK’s 144th Commencement is Sunday, May 8. The first ceremony of the day will honor graduate and professional students and will begin at 9 a.m.

The second ceremony of the day recognizes undergraduates from the colleges of Agriculture, Gatton College of Business and Economics, Education, Engineering and Nursing. This ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

The third ceremony recognizing the undergraduates will be held at 6 p.m. in Rupp Arena. The students honored at this ceremony will be from the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Communications and Information Studies, Design, Fine Arts, Health Sciences and Social Work.
