DanceBlue Wherever You Are

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2011) - Even though DanceBlue is held in Memorial Coliseum, supporters anywhere in the world can support and participate in UK's dance marathon.

This year, DanceBlue will be live-streamed online at www.danceblue.org. DanceBlue is working with Wildcat Student Television, UK's student-run television station, to bring the marathon to the World Wide Web.

“Live-streaming allows friends, supporters and DanceBlue alumni to stay connected with the marathon, even if they can’t be in Lexington this weekend,” Brittany Peskind, DanceBlue public relations chair, said.

During the marathon, dancers need lots of encouragement, so reach out through DanceBlue's social media to them! Keep in touch with the marathon and the dancers on Twitter and Facebook.

Each hour, DanceBlue will post new photos to their Facebook page giving their fans highlights of what is going on at the marathon each hour. To see these updates in your Facebook profile feed, visit www.facebook.com/danceblue and “like” the page.

For friends of DanceBlue on Twitter, there are several ways to show your support for the marathon. By following DanceBlue on Twitter at twitter.com/UKDanceblue, you will receive live updates from the marathon throughout the 24 hours. Also utilizing the DanceBlue hashtags #DB11 and #FTK will get your messages to the dancers via Twitter.

DanceBlue has also created a Twibbon, a small icon that you can add to your Twitter avatar, and a Profile Pants, an image that attaches to your Facebook profile picture. To add these to your social media pages, click here for the Twibbon and here for the Profile Pants.

DanceBlue is UK’s 24 hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon that benefits the Golden Matrix Fund and the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital. Now in its sixth year, DanceBlue has raised more than $2 million for pediatric cancer research and children with cancer.

DanceBlue is a program housed in the UK Center for Community Outreach (CCO). The CCO seeks to serve, connect and unite the University of Kentucky with the surrounding community in collaborative efforts to promote life-long community service.
