Final Word Rolls Out With Meg Marquis

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2010) – The last Final Word of the semester will end with a “roll” as Meg Marquis talks about her experiences while involved in roller derby. Her lecture will take place on at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, in the W. T. Young Library auditorium on UK’s campus. The lecture is part of a homegrown series hosted by the Student Activities Board (SAB).

Marquis is the academic coordinator for the UK Honors Program and is also a member of the Rollergirls of Central Kentucky (R.O.C.K). She will talk about roller derby and life lessons.

Roller Derby is a formation of roller skating that involves two teams skating on an oval track. Points are scored as the designated scoring player of both teams each lap members of the opposing team, including blockers, meaning offense and defense typically occur simultaneously.

“Students suggested Meg because she is awesome and has some really great stories. I am really excited to hear all the gnarly things she has to say,” said Jill Baranowski, director of SAB’s Engaging Issues Committee.
