LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2009) Assistant Director of the Center for Leadership Development Grace Gorrell will be speaking at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in the William T. Young Auditorium. This event is sponsored by the Student Activities Board (SAB).

Grace Gorrell, a teacher of Leadership Studies in the College of Agriculture, will give a speech titled “Lead with Grace, Grow Joyful Leaders,” which focuses on the importance of leading with grace and what it means to be a leader at UK. She will also share her own experiences and what it takes to grow as a student leader.

Gorrell has a tremendous passion for helping others discover leadership abilities and, in turn, helping them understand how they can use those skills to improve their professional and personal lifves. In her role at the center, she coordinates and teaches leadership programs for adults as well as young individuals.

"We are really excited to get to listen to what Grace has to say. It’s nice to see a side of UK’s faculty that most students don’t normally get to know,” said Katy Hall, director of SAB’s pop culture committee.

Gorrell’s speech is part of a lecture series titled “The Final Word” which strives to allow University of Kentucky faculty to talk about the interests they have outside of what they teach. That’s why the members of SAB search for faculty who have fascinating stories to share with students. Instructors are allowed to choose any topic they wish. For the last three years, “The Final Word” has been stirring up controversial issues, entertaining students, and providing information you may not typically find in a classroom. There are no limitations!

This free event is organized by SAB’s Pop Culture Committee. For more information on The Final Word or SAB, please visit the Web site at www.uksab.org.
