LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2012) — Forget about pencils, books, and clickers and escape into another reality — if only for two hours. The Student Activities Board is ready to bring some excitement to students’ schedules by bringing some movie mania magic to all Wildcats to break up that monotonous routine.

SAB is rebranding one of its previous series, “Cheap Seats.” The new and improved series is called CatFlix and will show blockbuster hits. The movies are free for UK students and will be shown on Tuesday and Wednesday, every other week.

“We wanted to focus on what the students really wanted to get from their movie-viewing experience when we rebranded the series,” said Travis Park, director of cinema for SAB. “Students look forward to coming to SAB events, and we want our movies to draw that same excitement.”

Some big releases CatFlix will bring to campus this semester include “The Amazing Spiderman,” “Project X” and “Think Like A Man.” CatFlix will also bring old favorites such as “Zombieland” and “Elf.”

In October, SAB’s Cinema Committee will host a Halloween-themed movie weekend called SCARE. SAB will have tasty treats and will end the weekend Tuesday, Oct. 30, with a lecture from Robert Kirkman, creator of “The Walking Dead” television series.

SAB brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
