Breadth of Art at UK Exhibit and Reception
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 19, 2011) – The University of Kentucky plays home to many talented students across majors and some of their work will be on display in the Rasdall Gallery in the Student Center from Thursday, Jan. 19, through Thursday, Feb. 2. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event is free and sponsored by the Student Activities Board.
Students of UK, including those in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program and others involved in Creative Campus, a student organization in the College of Fine Arts, are featured in the exhibit. Featured student artists went through an application process and were chosen by juror Brandon Smith of the art department. Selected students with exceptional work will be awarded with the prize of $200 worth of art supplies.
Becky Alley of the Lexington Art League will be judging Best in Show, along with the help of text message voting available to visitors of the exhibit. The winner will be announced upon the closing of the exhibit.
“I’m excited to be able to show student work of the highest quality, and to allow students to see the means of creativity and expression of their fellow classmates,” said Shannon Ruhl, director of SAB Cultural Arts Committee. “[The exhibit] is a great opportunity to the see the work of students' friends, of other students at UK, and become more connected with the most immediate arts community surrounding them.”
A reception will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Rasdall Gallery. Refreshments will be provided.
The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 events to the University of Kentucky annually that enhance the college experience by providing students, other members of the campus and the Lexington community with entertaining, educational or enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends.
