SAB Brings the Big Apple to Lexington With Humans of UK
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 2, 2015) — The Student Activities Board’s Multicultural Affairs Committee presents the Humans of UK exhibit and reception. The reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m.Monday, Nov. 2, in the new School of Visual Arts and Studies Building located on Bolivar Street. The exhibit will stay open from Nov. 2 to Nov. 13 outside of the Bolivar Gallery in the School of Visual Arts and Studies.
The Humans of UK exhibit is inspired by the “Humans of New York” photoblog that was started in 2010 by New York photographer Brandon Stanton. Humans of UK began as a photoblog by University of Kentucky Integrated Strategic Communications major Sally Evans as her multimedia project at the beginning of the spring 2015 semester. Updated semi-weekly, the blog’s Facebook page already has more than 80 portraits and over 3,900 fans.
“We are so excited to host an exhibit for Humans of UK,” said Lee Mengistu, SAB director of Multicultural Affairs. “This is a great opportunity for the UK community to witness popular portraits from the Humans of UK blog, as well as some never-before-seen photos and stories.”
The exhibit will be available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
SAB brings more than 60 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff, and the greater Lexington community.
