SAB Hosts Religion Panel

LEXINGTON Ky. (Oct. 24 2011) - In an increasingly polarized world, discussion of religious beliefs can lead to tension. Come find middle ground and speak in an open environment at the Religion Panel at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, in the Student Center Small Ballroom. This event is free and sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

The Religion Panel is an opportunity for students to interact peer-to-peer with representatives from religious-affiliated campus groups. An active dialogue with student leaders representing Atheism, Buddhism, Christianity (Protestant and Catholic), Deism and Judaism, followed by a response to questions previously submitted by students, will kick off the event. Audience members will also have a chance to ask their questions during a question and answer session at the end.

“Religion is a topic that every college student has to deal with at some time or another,” said Sarah Jones, director of SAB Engaging Issues Committee. “This is an excellent opportunity for students of all faiths to be exposed to different worldviews.”

One large part of being an educated, global citizen includes understanding differing beliefs. For students who already identify with a worldview or don’t know what they believe, the Religion Panel is a chance to appreciate the diversity that exists on the University of Kentucky’s campus and to discuss the religious issues that divide people.

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational, and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
