Sundy Best: From CMT to SAB’s Soundbites Series
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2014) — You asked for them UK, and here they are! Sundy Best will continue the Student Activities Board’s Soundbites series, which will take place at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in Memorial Hall. Along with performing many of their original songs, members of the band will also explain the inspiration behind their lyrics in a “storytellers” format.
Sundy Best is a rising country group from Lexington, Ky., and is said to “craft music that re-imagines timeless classic rock of the ‘70s and ‘80s.” The use of the cajon, a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Perú, is part of what gives Sundy Best its distinctive sound. With hints of country and bluegrass, lifelong friends Nick and Kris started as a bar band, and have now been featured on the popular country music television station, CMT, as well as performing at the Grand Ole Opry.
“Since it is a combination of both music and stories behind their songs, I think this performance gives students more than a normal Sundy Best concert,” said Adam Carrico, SAB director of concerts. “According to our All-Student Survey, students really wanted us to bring them, so that's why they are here!”
The Soundbites Series is an intimate performance featuring up-and-coming artists. It allows students to see quality artists for free on campus, as well as the opportunity to be introduced to music they may not be very familiar with.
SAB brings more than 100 entertaining, educational, and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff, and the greater Lexington community.
