UK Libraries Taking Applications Now for 2017-18 Dean’s Undergraduate Scholarship Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 24, 2018) — The University of Kentucky Libraries is now accepting applications for the UK Libraries Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship for the academic year 2017-18. In its second year, the award seeks to recognize and celebrate exceptional, original scholarship and excellent research conducted by UK undergraduates whose research projects make substantive and creative use of the UK Libraries’ collections, services and resources. 

Submissions are encouraged from all disciplines. Awards are judged on how well a student’s project demonstrates extensive, effective use of library resources, proficient research skills, information literacy competence, and solid scholarship within their discipline. 

A cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to one individual undergraduate student each year. Awards are given only if submissions meeting award criteria are received. The winner and their faculty sponsor(s) will be honored at a special event in the spring and should include the award as part of their abstract at the Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars, scheduled for April 25, 2018.

Applicants for the UK Libraries Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship should submit their applications by March 1, 2018. Awardees will be notified by email: March 15, 2018. The award winner will be expected to submit his or her research to the Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars. Deadline for submission to the showcase is April 2, 2018.
