Free Covered Parking Available During Winter Break

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 15, 2021) — Keep your wheels under cover this winter! University of Kentucky Transportation Services is offering free, covered storage for cars and bicycles on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students with a valid UK parking permit who wish to move their vehicles to Cornerstone Garage (PS #5) — a covered parking structure  — for the duration of Winter Break should stop by the Transportation Services office to pick up a free holiday parking pass.

These passes are now available at the Transportation Services’ Customer Service Center in the Press Avenue Garage (PS #6) or the satellite office in Cornerstone Garage (PS #5). The first 200 students will be accommodated. If you wish to use a holiday pass, please be prepared to provide your student ID, as well as the make, model and license plate number of your vehicle.

The passes will be valid beginning Monday, Dec. 13, through 5:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, for levels four and five of Cornerstone Garage.

Students who use a holiday pass should access the garage by pulling a visitor ticket from the ticket dispenser. The holiday parking pass must be clearly displayed on the dashboard. Upon returning to campus, students should take their pass to the Cornerstone Garage office to be exchanged for an exit voucher. Vehicles not moved to their regular parking area by 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, will begin incurring a $2 hourly parking fee, with a maximum fee of $16 per day.

Students with residential or periphery permits may also leave their vehicles in place over Winter Break if they wish to do so.

All student residential lots remain on control for valid permits over Winter Break. Any valid UK permit will suffice for many residential areas. However, the following lots and structures require the specific permit for that area:

  • Seminary residential lots (R29 and R30)
  • Wildcat Coal Lodge lot (R17)
  • Rose Street Garage (R2)
  • Sports Center Garage and Complex Drive (R7)
  • German House area (R18)

Free Covered Bike Storage at Wildcat Wheels

If you typically travel on two wheels, you can keep your bicycle under cover at Wildcat Wheels Bicycle Library (WWBL). Students and employees can securely store their bikes out of the elements at the shop, located on the first floor of Blazer Dining.

Bikes will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis starting on Monday, Dec. 13.

You must have a UK bicycle permit to participate in the holiday bike storage program. If you don’t already have one, WWBL staff will issue free permits during bicycle drop-off days. Wildcat Wheels is open 2-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Bicycles not picked up by Friday, Jan. 14, will incur a storage fee of $2.50 per day

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
