LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2023) — Do you love bikes? Or are you just interested in learning more about riding on campus? Make plans now to attend Pedalpalooza, UK Transportation Services’ annual K Week event dedicated to the love of bikes.

Meet other student cyclists in a fun environment and complete three on-site bike challenges to be entered into a drawing to win an Apple Watch.

Pedalpalooza is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 18, from 1-3 p.m. in the Gatton Student Center parking lot. The event is free for all.

Fun and games are guaranteed, plus the opportunity to learn useful tips for riding on campus. Students can become familiar with using bike racks and snag some free cycling swag. Wildcat Wheels’ smoothie bike will also be on-site, giving students a chance to pedal the bike blender to create their own cool treat.

Event passports will be available and students who complete three on-site challenges and get their passport stamped at each will be entered into a random drawing for a brand new Apple Watch!

Bike challenges include:

  • Slow Race
  • Loading a Bike on a Bus
  • Locking Up Your Bike

Pedalpalooza is one of several bicycle events held throughout the year to support a robust cycling culture at the University of Kentucky.

“Bikes are a great way to get around campus and Lexington,” said Sam Burchett, UK’s Alternative Transportation Manager. “We want to help students utilize all of the resources the university has to offer to help make riding a bike fun and safe. We look forward to welcoming new students to the university.”

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
