Callum Irving Repeats as C-USA Player of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Callum Irving was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for the second-consecutive Monday.
Irving's honor marked five straight weeks where Kentucky had a C-USA Player of the week.
Stefan Stojkovic, Napo Matsoso and Jordan Wilson earned the honors in the three respective weeks prior to Irving's recognition last week.
Irving notched a pair of C-USA wins to lead Kentucky (10-3-2, 6-0-1 and 19 points in C-USA) to the No. 1 seed in the 2015 C-USA Men's Soccer Championship and secure at least a share of the C-USA regular-season title.
Last Wednesday the senior posted his sixth clean sheet in league action with a four-save outing in a 1-0 victory over UAB.
Irving followed up that performance with a 2-1 double-overtime win at (RV) Charlotte last Saturday in a battle of the league's top teams. Against Charlotte, Irving had to settle for conceding a goal in league play for the first time this season, a run that reached 667:41 minutes, although the goal came from point-blank range.
Yet he was spectacular in goal once again, tying his season-high with seven saves including a game-saver at the start of overtime.
In league play, the Vancouver native owns a 0.13 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage to go along with six shutouts. His total-season numbers are 0.64 goals-against average (14th best in the country) and .821 save percentage in 1412:35 minutes of action.
Irving has been C-USA Player of the Week twice this season (Oct. 26) and five times in his career (Oct. 20, 2014, Sept. 22, 2014, Sept. 15, 2014).
Hutchins named to CSN Team of the Week
Noah Hutchins, who scored a spectacular double-overtime winner at Charlotte, was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on Monday.
For his goal he received the ball from midfield, cut in as he neared the Charlotte box and perfectly placed his lofted effort from his weaker left foot over the goalkeeper's fingertips and into the left upper-90.
The goal was his third of the year.
He was lively all night against Charlotte with a good move to get free and fire a shot midway through the first half. He unleashed a shot that Charlotte's goalkeeper could only force out for a corner 12 minutes into the second half. That corner resulted in UK's opening goal.
