Are You Ready to Fall in Love…With Sleep?
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 8, 2021) — With Valentine’s Day approaching, University of Kentucky faculty, staff and students are invited to join the “Fall in Love with Sleep” challenge.
Most adults average about six hours of sleep per night or even less. But healthy sleep patterns can help reduce stress and anxiety; improve performance at work and school; lower your risk for health problems such as diabetes, heart disease and weight problems; and even improve your immune response.
Jointly sponsored by UK Human Resources Health and Wellness and UK Campus Recreation and Wellness, the “Fall in Love with Sleep” challenge is to monitor your sleep using the Sleeprate app for at least seven days during the month of February. The nights do not need to be consecutive, but they must fall between Feb. 1 and 28 to be considered for a prize.
To participate in the challenge:
- Visit the Sleep Well page.
- Fill out a sleep pre-assessment. When you complete the pre-assessment, you will receive a link to register your linkblue email and create a password (you must use your linkblue account to download the Sleeprate app for free – it normally costs $9.99 per month).
- Download the new Sleeprate app from the app store of your choice.
- Sign in using the email and password your set up previously and follow the prompts.
- Log in and record your sleep for seven or more nights to be eligible for a prize.
- Learn skills and strategies to help you sleep better and increase your well-being!
Prizes for employees: The first 100 employees who download the app will receive a free UK blanket. If you log seven or more nights of sleep using the app you will be entered to win one of three Fitbits.
Prizes for students: All students who download the app will be eligible to pick up a free UK blanket. Log seven or more nights of sleep using the app to be entered to win one of three Garmin watches.
Winners will be notified with instructions for prize pickup in March.
If you are already a Sleeprate user, you can still participate! You will just need to download the new app. You may continue to use the older app but you won’t be eligible for the blanket or raffle.

As a UK employee, UK Human Resources Health and Wellness and UK Human Resources Work+Life services are available to you if you would like to speak with a health coach or therapist about ongoing sleep issues or other areas of your life that affect your well-being.
As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
