LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 23, 2025) — DanceBlue is participating in the fifth annual Commonwealth Cup fundraiser Jan. 27-31. The Commonwealth Cup is a virtual fundraising event week that unites college students across Kentucky in support of one cause: raising money to fight pediatric cancer.

This year, the Commonwealth Cup is a fundraising drive between the University of Kentucky’s DanceBlue, University of Louisville’s RaiseRED and Western Kentucky University’s Dance Big Red. For one week, each school will push fundraising efforts in support of its individual organizations.

The Commonwealth Cup will use each organization’s social media platforms to encourage students’ fundraising. Last year, participating schools collectively raised more than $135,000, with UK raising $67,211.75. This year, DanceBlue’s fundraising goal for the Commonwealth Cup is $70,000.

To help the fundraising efforts, DanceBlue is hosting a weeklong fundraiser with different goals to help promote the mission of the organization in hopes that more awareness will be spread and lives will continue to be changed. Stay tuned at @uk_danceblue to engage with fundraising templates and promotional content during Commonwealth Cup.

Additionally, from noon to 9 p.m. Jan. 28, DanceBlue is partnering with BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Lexington for an overall fundraiser during the Commonwealth Cup. During this time, the restaurant will donate 20% of its sales to DanceBlue.

DanceBlue is a University of Kentucky student-run organization that fundraises year-round and culminates in a 24-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. Since 2006, DanceBlue has raised more than $20 million, making DanceBlue one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the Southeastern Conference. As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
