Heart Walk This Weekend
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 21, 2011) — The University of Kentucky will host the annual Central Kentucky Start! Heart Walk April 23 at Commonwealth Stadium. Thousands of walkers are expected to converge on the stadium parking lot for a series of events highlighting the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., along with a vendor fair featuring health screenings, local food samples, and inflatable games for children. The opening ceremony, emceed by WKYT-TV anchor Amber Philpott, kicks off at 10 a.m., followed immediately by walkers taking to the course.
"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," said AHA Heart Walk Director Jennifer Ebert. "Our fundraising goal this year is $375,000. We will use this money to support research into causes of and cures for heart disease."
The Heart Walk is scheduled just prior to the UK football Blue/White Game. Fans are encouraged to come out for the Heart Walk, and stay to tailgate for the free game.
