Learn lifesaving techniques at UK’s upcoming ‘Stop the Bleed’ event
LEXINGTON, Ky (April 13, 2026) — University of Kentucky Human Resources Work-Life, Safe Kids Fayette County and Golisano Children’s at UK are hosting a free educational “Stop the Bleed” display and demo event this month.
“Stop the Bleed,” 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 on the Gatton Student Center second floor atrium, demonstrates techniques to help save a life in an emergency situation.
The goal of “Stop the Bleed” is to better prepare the public to save lives by raising awareness of basic actions to stop life-threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies and human-made and natural disasters. Severe bleeding can result in death within minutes before paramedics have a chance to respond.
“Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of a preventable death from trauma,” said Azetta Beatty, HR Work-Life benefits manager. “In some cases, applying these simple techniques can be the difference between life and death for a family member or stranger that is bleeding.”
Research suggests bystanders with little or no medical training can save lives during an emergency. Compressing a wound after a traumatic injury improves the chances of survival for trauma victims.
Everyone in the UK community can benefit from this event, especially caregivers of children and aging loved ones.
“Stop the Bleed” is open to everyone.
Registration is recommended but not required. Learn more and register at hr.uky.edu/events/2026-04-29/working-parents-workshop-stop-bleed-display-and-demo-activity-person-only.
