Lifelong Learning Institute Hosts Art Event

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 24, 2013) — The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Kentucky invites the public to an afternoon celebrating the arts.

The annual "OLLI and the Arts" event will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Tates Creek Christian Church, 3150 Tates Creek Road in Lexington. The OLLI at UK offers numerous courses for adults 50 and older. Visual and performing arts courses culminate their year of learning with a concert, art exhibit and reception.

In concert will be the 60-plus-member OLLI Chorus, led by director John Stegner, and the OLLI Strummers Performing Dulcimer Group. Following the concert, a reception will be held with art exhibited by numerous artists and instructors from OLLI visual arts and photography courses and music provided by dulcimer students. The event is free and open to the public.

Works by OLLI artists are also featured in two ongoing exhibits. Art at the Cathedral is featuring the theme "New Life, as Seen in Contrast" through May 19 at Christ Church Cathedral, at 166 Market Street in Lexington. The exhibit is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Kentucky-themed exhibit is on display through June 16 at the Headley-Whitney Museum, located at 4435 Old Frankfort Pike in Lexington.The exhibit is available during regular museum hours.
