LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 10, 2024) —Tickets are on sale now for the Big Blue Birthday Bash, taking place Saturday, April 20. The event supports the Centennial Scholarship Fund in the University of Kentucky College of Education and will feature a performance by the Coach Mitchell Band, fronted by former Kentucky Women’s Basketball Coach Matthew Mitchell.

The Big Blue Birthday Bash is an opportunity to:

  • enjoy a night overlooking Lexington’s skyline at The Mane on Main (cocktail attire);

  • walk the blue carpet, take a selfie with the Wildcat and dance the night away;

  • be part of the Coach Mitchell Band experience (songs of the 70s, 80s and 90s);

  • savor food from Dupree Catering (cash bar);

  • win exciting silent auction items;

  • celebrate the College of Education’s 100th anniversary and

  • support scholarships for students (proceeds from the event will support scholarships).

The Centennial Scholarship Fund, created in honor of the college’s 100th anniversary, will provide students access to scholarships during their journey to make a difference and will help address an ongoing national shortage of professionals in fields such as teaching and health care.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our centennial with community members who care about our mission. During the past 100 years, community partnerships have been integral to our impact in preparing educators, health professionals, counselors, researchers and leaders to make a difference. Community support will continue to help us prepare scholars who impact Kentucky – and beyond – during the decades to come," said UK College of Education Acting Dean Danelle Stevens-Watkins, Ph.D., UK associate vice president for research, equity and professor of counseling psychology in the Department of Educational, School and Counseling Psychology.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
