LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 26, 2019) — Stop by University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, for a Welcome Back Open House to celebrate the first week of the new academic year.

Archivists and librarians will be outside of the SCRC handing out ice cream, drinks and giveaways. In addition, there will also be activities like puzzles and button-making to give students a short break between classes.

While you're there, visit the “wildCATS!” exhibit on display in the SCRC Lobby, which features all the finest felines from SCRC collections, spanning over 100 years of Kentucky and UK history.

“From the Stacks” an exhibit of unique books from SCRC collections will also be displayed on the second floor. This exhibit, curated by staff and students at the SCRC, provides a glimpse into the wonderful array of printed works available to UK students and researchers.

The SCRC at UK Libraries sustains the Commonwealth's memory and serves as the essential bridge between past, present and future. By preserving materials documenting the social, cultural, economic and political history of Kentucky, the center provides rich opportunities for students to expand their worldview and enhance their critical thinking skills. SCRC materials are used by scholars worldwide to advance original research and pioneer creative approaches to scholarship. UK Libraries Special Collections Research Center is the Archives, the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History, the King Library Press, the Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center, the Bert T. Combs Appalachian Collection, the John G. Heyburn Initiative and ExploreUK.
