‘UK at the Half’: UK College of Pharmacy hosts 5th annual city-wide science festival
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2023) — What can seem like an intimidating topic is, in reality, quite relatable: from the moment we wake up in the morning, science is happening all around us at every moment in time. In this “UK at the Half,” Rosa Mejia-Cruz discusses how making science accessible in a fun and interactive way is essential in helping people feel more connected to science and the city of Lexington as a whole.
Each year, a group of students and employees at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy work together with campus and community partners to show Lexington that science is all around us.
“The College of Pharmacy felt that it was important to really ingrain ourselves in the community and show Lexington that science isn't some big scary thing that only happens in a research lab. We want to be able to recognize all of the cool ways that science impacts our everyday lives and how we can use science to create a better future for everybody,” said Mejia-Cruz, communications director at the UK College of Pharmacy.
Everything is Science is held at different locations throughout the city, with events happening Monday through Friday. The festival features presentations, demonstrations, and conversations in laid-back spaces, like local restaurants, pubs, and breweries. Speakers aim to bring an uncomplicated approach to topics that we may not initially consider science related.
Everything is Science: It’s About Time! is happening all this week from 6-8 p.m. each day. All events are free and open to the public. No registration is required. For a complete listing of topics, speakers and events, visit the Everything is Science website.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
