LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 7, 2017) — Once a caregiver's duties are complete, they may feel emptiness, grief and loss of identity. Separating from a caregiver identity, readjusting to the world and forming new relationships are all important in reclaiming life. The University of Kentucky Office of Work-Life and Elder Care Office will host a Life After Caregiving Workshop Thursday, March 23, to discuss skills and tools that will help attendees reimagine and transition to life after caregiving.

Linda Barrett, visiting assistant professor of gerontology at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, will conduct the half-day workshop.

The workshop is open to UK students, faculty, staff and the general public. The workshop will take place in the Wethington Building Commons Room located at 900 S. Limestone. Complimentary parking will be available in the UK HealthCare parking garage (110 Transcript Ave.) for attendees coming from an off-campus location.

Those interested in attending the workshop should visit www.uky.edu/hr/life-after-caregiving-workshop to register. The registration deadline is Thursday, March 16. There is a $15 registration fee. Financial assistance is available to UK students, faculty and staff wishing to attend.

Check-in for the workshop will begin at 8 a.m. with the workshop beginning at 9 a.m.

"Losing someone you love is a difficult journey. The grieving process starts when the loss is recognized and continues on until the loss is accepted. I hope everyone who attends the workshop will find ways to reclaim their life and readjust to their new role as a non-caregiver which will allow them to find peace," said Elder Care Specialist Terri Weber.
