Johnson Chosen for AAOS Expert Roundtable

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 20, 2012) — University of Kentucky Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery Dr. Darren Johnson was a featured expert in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' expert roundtable session during their annual meeting in San Francisco.

Johnson, the current head orthopaedic surgeon for UK Athletics, served as moderator for the AAOS roundtable titled, "Athletic Injuries: From Amateur Sports to the Olympics – Getting Back in the Game." The event featured a panel discussion of hot topics in the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine, including concussion recovery in young athletes, helmet characteristics and their relationship to mild traumatic brain injury, and injury prevention for amateur to Olympic-level athletes.

Joining Johnson in the roundtable were experts Dr. Jo A. Hannafin, director of orthopedic research at Hospital for Special Surgery and team physician for the United States Rowing Team; and Dr. Scott Rodeo, co-chief of the sports medicine and shoulder service at the Hospital for Special Surgery and team physician for the 2012 United States Olympic Team.
