UK Arts in Healthcare Exhibit Showcases Employee Art

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 26, 2012) - A new art exhibit at the Albert B. Chandler Hospital and UK Good Samaritan Hospital showcases the artwork of 16 talented artists - artists who also happen to be UK HealthCare physicians, faculty and staff.

The exhibit, titled "The Healing Presence of Art," contains a juried selection of works submitted by UK HealthCare employees in response to the call to submit work on the healing power of art and understand how art enhances the healing environment, said UK Arts in HealthCare Director Jackie Hamilton.

"The UK Arts in HealthCare Program is all about the healing power of art, and what better way to help depict that than with artwork from our own employees," said Hamilton. "This exhibit offers us a way to not only celebrate the talents of our faculty and staff, but to involve them in our mission to enhance the healing environment of our medical campus."

The exhibit contains 19 pieces of art from 16 different UK HealthCare employees - employees like Bruce Robert Frank, a senior graphic designer in UK HealthCare Marketing, Communications & Advertising.

"It's a great honor to be chosen for this exhibit, especially since I know there were many excellent submissions," said Frank. "When my wife and I first moved to the Bluegrass in 2001, we were immediately impressed by the widespread appreciation of the arts in this area.

The UK Arts in HealthCare program has furthered that atmosphere of appreciation by bringing the arts into a healing environment. It's heartening to know that my work and that of the other artists in this exhibit might uplift the spirits of a patient, family member, or visitor."

Frank has two pieces in the exhibit - "Lotus in Light" and "Metamorphosis," both photographic art pieces created in 2011.

An independent external juror selected the 19 pieces featured in the exhibit. After being displayed in the employee galleries, the art will become part of the UK Arts in HealthCare permanent collection.

The exhibit is divided between the lobby of the UK Chandler Hospital's Pavilion H and UK Good Samaritan Hospital.
