UK Arts in HealthCare Program Receives MediStar Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 30, 2013) - The University of Kentucky's Arts in HealthCare program has been named by MediStar as the winner of this year's Medical News for You Consumer First Award.

The MediStar Awards are presented by IGE Media, publishers of Medical News and Medical News for You.  IGE Media serves as the primary and trusted resource for people who work in healthcare and make healthcare decisions.

The Medical News for You Consumer First Award is presented to an individual or organization that has demonstrated the most “consumer friendly” program or facility. The award is named for its underwriting sponsor.

"It is an honor for myself, our staff and the UK Arts in HealthCare program to have been named by MediStar as this year’s Medical News for You Consumer First Award winner," said Jackie Hamilton, director of the UK Arts in HealthCare Program. "It serves as a confirmation that all of our hard work and effort has been recognized and appreciated by our consumers.  We are very proud of what we have created here on the medical campus of the University of Kentucky.  This sort of recognition serves to further motivate us as we push forward with our efforts to further establish and diversify our program."

UK Arts in HealthCare was presented with a one-of-a-kind pewter repoussé designed and created specifically for the MediStar Awards by Craig Kaviar of Kaviar Forge in Louisville.

About the MediStar Awards
The MediStar Awards, the region’s premier venue for recognizing the best-of-the-best in the business of healthcare and featured networking with more than 500 healthcare professionals and executives and a cocktail reception.  Since 2007 the MediStar Awards has recognized excellence in the business of healthcare by honoring healthcare professionals for their achievements in advocacy, innovation, education, leadership, design, humanity and meeting consumer needs, as well as announcing the Physician of the Year award.   More than 40 organizations and 80 individual nominees were represented in this year’s MediStar Awards nominees.

The MediStar Awards were originally created by Sandy Wensley, the former owner of Medical News in 2007.  Wensley’s motive was to showcase the healthcare stars of our community.  Extensive planning took place with Wensley and the Medical News editorial board, where they created the eight award names and the format of the first award ceremony.
