Van Eldik Elected to ADC Executive Committee, NACC Steering Committee

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 15, 2011) — Linda Van Eldik, director of the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and the UK Alzheimer's Disease Center (ADC), has been elected to the Alzheimer's Disease Center executive committee.

Van Eldik will be one of three ADC directors who represent the interests of all Alzheimer's Disease Centers funded by the National Institute on Aging. The executive committee organizes biannual ADC meetings, considers policies, and establishes direction for ADCs nationwide.

“Dr. Linda Van Eldik is a national leader in the field of Alzheimer’s research,” said Dr. Frederick C. de Beer, dean of the College of Medicine and vice president for clinical academic affairs. “It is only fitting that she serve as a director on the Alzheimer’s Disease Center executive committee and the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center steering committee. I am confident that she will serve these committees with the same dedication and aptitude with which she serves the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and UK Alzheimer’s Disease Center.”

Van Eldik will serve along with directors from Columbia University and University of California - Davis. She will serve a three-year term, and will be chair of the executive committee in her final year.

As a member of the ADC executive committee, Van Eldik will also be a member of the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) steering committee where she will work to consult with and advise the leadership of NACC and NIA; oversee, review and approve data management by NACC; identify, prioritize and review study topics; interpret and analyze NACC data; and review scores and proposals for NACC project applications.
