"Your Health" This Sunday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2009) -- Just two cans of pop a day can cause a child to gain an extra pound every 11 days, from consuming the equivalent of an additional 220 teaspoons of sugar.

[IMAGE1] In a guest column in Sunday's Lexington Herald-Leader, Maria G. Boosalis offers helpful advice and suggestions to parents about the impact sugar-sweetened drinks can have on children and the importance of starting healthy eating and drinking habits early. Boosalis is the director of the Division of Clinical Nutrition in the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences.

The column is part of an ongoing series of health columns by UK HealthCare experts appearing in each Sunday's edition of the Herald-Leader and online at BluegrassMoms.com.
