Bike Lanes Added on Virginia Avenue
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 12, 2012) ― The campus and city bicycle network continues to grow. University of Kentucky Parking and Transportation Services announces that thanks to a partnership between UK and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, Virginia Avenue now includes bike lanes. For the thousands of students who live in nearby apartment developments, the newly marked lanes provide much improved bicycle access to campus and a connection to the existing city and university bicycle network.
As always, cyclists should exercise caution when riding on area streets and roads, particularly when approaching intersections. In particular, cyclists traveling west on the new Virginia Avenue bike lanes who need to make a left turn onto Export Street should first scan behind them for vehicles, signal by extending their left arm horizontally, make sure all lanes are clear before crossing traffic, maneuver to the center turn lane and complete the left turn from there.
