Campus to Debate Student Code Changes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 30, 2010) – The University of Kentucky Student Code Committee, consisting of students, faculty and staff, has evaluated the current Code of Student Conduct and has proposed significant revisions.

The Student Code Committee will discuss feedback, make any necessary changes and submit the final proposal to President Lee T. Todd Jr. by the end of April.

The University of Kentucky currently operates with a Code of Student Conduct that was last updated in July 2005. For the past year, the Student Code Committee has been meeting to complete a multifaceted assignment:

* To align the current code with national best practices;

* To ensure that the code is in compliance with recent changes to Federal and State law (e.g. the Clery Act, Title IX, policies issued by the Office of Civil Rights);

* To incorporate recent university policy changes (e.g. AR 6.2 [Policy on Sexual Assault, Stalking and Relationship Violence])

* To clarify the procedures associated with alleged violations of the code

The committee is seeking feedback from the university community. Send all questions, comments, or suggestions to Tony Blanton, associate dean of students, at dab@uky.edu no later than April 2, 2010.
