Coldstream Hosts 'Hot Chocolate, Cool Watersheds'
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 7, 2012) — An interactive social designed to share information about the Cane Run Watershed Project will be held Dec. 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Coldstream Research Campus. Student groups, educators and community members are invited to learn more about the Cane Run project and stream restoration that will take place in the Coldstream park, adjacent to Legacy Trail.
The event will include brief presentations by water-quality experts and student groups from Northern Elementary, Winburn Middle School, and Bryan Station High School. During the presentations, children can participate in activities hosted by Bluegrass PRIDE and the University of Kentucky Arboretum that include microscopic examination of bugs found in streams, construction of pine cone bird feeders and decoration of holiday ornaments.

Since 2006, the Cane Run Watershed Project has been addressing the restoration of this important waterway, which flows from northeast Lexington to Georgetown. The on-going effort focuses on educating the community about plans to reduce high levels of pathogens and nutrients from sewage, manure and fertilizer, and address storm water runoff.
The social is sponsored by a multi-departmental group involved in the Cane Run Watershed Project and funded through an EPA grant that promotes citizens’ knowledge of and interaction with small, urban watersheds. For more information, visit the Cane Run Watershed website.
