Columbia Avenue Partially Closed for Construction Work

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 7, 2013) ― A traffic update from University of Kentucky Parking and Transportation Services:  The next phase of the Woodland Glen sanitary sewer project is set to begin today, Monday, Oct. 7. During this phase, Columbia Avenue from Woodland Avenue to Oldham Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic.

Eastbound traffic on Columbia Avenue will be detoured north along Woodland Avenue to Euclid Avenue. Traffic coming from Hilltop Avenue will be permitted to turn left onto Columbia Avenue; right turns will not be permitted.

Traffic on Columbia Avenue between Rose Street and Woodland Avenue will remain two-way.

Woodland Avenue southbound from Columbia Avenue to Hilltop Avenue remains closed.

Motorists should expect delays in the area. This phase is expected to last approximately one month. Anyone who normally travels in the vicinity should allow extra time for their commute. Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution as they navigate the area.

Meanwile, due to construction work on a gas line, Lexington Avenue will be closed to all traffic at the intersection with East Maxwell beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9 and continuing through Wednesday, Nov. 6. Motorists will be able to access Lexington Avenue from the south via Avenue of Champions. Traffic on East Maxwell will not be impacted.

CATS bus service is expected to operate on a normal schedule during this time period although riders may experience slight traffic delays due to vehicle congestion in the area.

The project is scheduled to conclude by Wednesday, Nov. 9, but as with all construction, the work is weather-dependent and timetables are subject to change. Anyone who normally travels in the vicinity should allow extra time for their commute. Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution as they navigate the area.
