Farmer’s MarCat Returns to Campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 12, 2011) - There is no better way to start fall then by grabbing some fresh produce and local goods at the Farmer’s MarCat from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, in the Buell Armory on Administration Drive. This event is sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

This is the second time the Farmer’s MarCat has been held on campus. The MarCat will allow students, faculty and staff the opportunity to interact with Central Kentucky farmers as they purchase fresh, local produce and food products. The benefits and ease of purchasing local products can all be experienced at this mini on-campus market.

“Students will be able to purchase fresh produce from farmers right here in Kentucky. This is a great way for them to learn about buying locally,” said Sarah Jones, director of the SAB Engaging Issues Committee.

Students can expect a variety of vendors selling in-season fruits and vegetables, Italian sausages, Artisan cheese, orchard fruits and products, sweet corn and pumpkins, local honey, homemade sauces, hot, prepared foods as well as products such as cut flowers and floral arrangements and soap and body care products.

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 events to the University of Kentucky annually that enhance the college experience by providing students, other members of the campus and the Lexington community with entertaining, educational or enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends.
