LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 26, 2020) — With University of Kentucky now offering in-session classes again, the university continues to field questions related to specific elements of the campus restart plan. Below are a couple of the questions most commonly asked by university faculty and staff.

Q: Who is responsible for cleaning my work environment? Classrooms?

A: UK Facilities Management continues to provide routine building cleaning and deep cleaning as required based on potential exposures. In addition to these efforts, the Kentucky Healthy at Work requirements suggest employees clean high-touch surfaces and objects routinely, using disinfectant wipes twice daily. Examples of frequently touched items include:

  • tables
  • copiers
  • doorknobs
  • light switches
  • countertops
  • handles
  • desks
  • phones
  • keyboards and computer mouse
  • touch screens

Although Facilities Management will do a thorough cleaning of all classrooms and other common areas daily, cleaning of classroom spaces will be a shared responsibility by all members of the university community. Over 1,000 cleaning kits have been distributed throughout campus, including for use in classrooms.

Q: What is UK’s positivity rate so far?

A: UK is publishing, and updating daily, the number of students tested, the number of positive results, and the current positivity rate. That information is available here: www.uky.edu/coronavirus/covid-19-testing-results.

As of Aug. 22, of the 22,470 students tested, Wild Health reported 249 positive cases and a 1.1% positivity rate on campus. To see updated results from student testing, visit: www.uky.edu/coronavirus/covid-19-testing-results.

Each day UK will be providing some of the most frequently asked questions from students, faculty and staff and answering them as we start the new semester. If you have questions you would like to see answered, please email coronavirus@uky.edu. We will continue to answer those on an individual basis, but may also include them in UKNOW. Thanks and stay safe and healthy.
