FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 7, 2017) – Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton recently announced the kickoff of the 2018 Lieutenant Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge (LGEC) at a reception hosted by Daviess County High School,  which was home to the first-place team of the 2017 LGEC.

“It gives me great joy to officially kick off the 2018 LGEC with the community of 2017 LGEC winners,” Hampton said. “My hope is that we are able to engage more students with an entrepreneurial experience and give away more scholarship money than the first year.”

The LGEC is a pitch competition for all Kentucky high school students grades 9-12, which launched in 2016. The competition’s goal is to introduce students to a realistic business environment, highlight entrepreneurial values, promote business ownership, and encourage lifelong learning. The LGEC is currently the only program of its kind in the United States.

All high school students from public, private and homeschool settings are eligible to participate. The registration deadline is Oct. 31, 2017. Materials are due Jan. 31, 2018. Regional competitions will take place April 9-13, 2018, and finals will take place April 28, 2018.

Prizes for the 2018 LGEC include a share of up to $100,000 in scholarships split among the top four teams at finals, which can be used at any post-secondary institution in Kentucky.

Competition hosts include West Kentucky Community & Technical College (CTC), Owensboro CTC, Elizabethtown CTC, Bellarmine University, Gateway CTC, Asbury University, Eastern Kentucky University, Union College, Maysville CTC, Big Sandy CTC, and the University of Kentucky.
