National Conference Brings 4,000 to Campus, Impacts Parking, Buses April 3-5

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 28, 2014) ― The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) will take place at the University of Kentucky April 3-5. With nearly 4,000 students and faculty mentors expected to be on campus for the conference, campus parking and bus service will be significantly impacted during this time.

Students and employees who normally park on North Campus should allow extra time in their commute to UK. Although event attendees are strongly encouraged to use shuttle services from the conference hotels or from remote lots, the South Limestone Garage (PS #5) may experience an influx of visitor parking Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4. If the garage fills, employees with valid E permits may park in another E lot. Go to www.uky.edu/pts/parking-info_parking-maps to view a campus parking map. Students with valid C5 or C7 permits may park in the Taylor-Dickey Lot or the Scott Street Lot, or park in the K areas at Commonwealth Stadium and ride the Lextran Stadium-Greg Page Route.

The Student Center Lot will be unavailable to general parking from 6 a.m. until noon both Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4. The lot has 162 spaces. Disabled accessible spaces and metered parking in the lot will still be available during the designated time periods.

Additionally, the Singletary Center Lot will be unavailable to general parking starting Thursday, April 3 and continuing through Saturday, April 5. The lot has 33 spaces.

Students who use the Lextran Stadium-Greg Page Route should allow for extra time, as some NCUR attendees may be riding this bus as a means to access campus from remote lots. To accommodate conference attendees, this route will operate until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4, instead of its usual 6:15 p.m.

The CATS Red, Blue and Night Routes may experience delays Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 due to heavy traffic volumes, particularly at the Gillis Building stop. For the most up-to-date bus route information, riders can view the actual location of all CATS buses on all routes by using Cat Tracker, a real-time GPS-based bus locating system. Visit http://uky.transloc.com. You can also track the buses via the free TransLoc iPhone, Android and BlackBerry apps, by using your smart phone to scan the QR codes found on each bus stop sign or by using the SMS codes found at each bus stop. More information about all the bus routes, including maps and schedules, can be found at www.uky.edu/pts/buses-and-shuttles_campus-shuttles.
